Carry on rainbow rowell gif
Every time someone cast a spell, I had to laugh because some were just so ridiculous. I loved the magic system, which used common turns of phrase for all spells. I’ve seen some people complain about this, but honestly it made me appreciate the differences between the novels even more. There was lots of swearing, more sexual references (but nothing too sexual), and maybe some more violence overall, but otherwise many many many parallels with Harry Potter. This book felt like Rowell took Harry Potter and wrote it for an older YA or adult audience. After he’s already had years to form friendships, fight the terrible Humdrum on several occasions, and create his own mortal enemy, Baz. But fast forward–the novel actually begins in Simon’s final year at school. The novel follows the story of Simon Snow, an orphaned child who was told one day by a man dressed like Robin Hood that he’s actually a powerful mage (sound familiar?). Which makes sense since it is sort of a parody of the Harry Potter universe… It gave me the same feeling I had back as a kid the first time I read Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban (my favorite of the series). My Thoughts?įirst of all, I have to say I absolutely LOVED this book. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story – but far, far more monsters. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here - it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.Ĭarry On – The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow is a ghost story, a love story and a mystery. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon’s face. Half the time, Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s probably right. Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who’s ever been chosen. When I learned that Rowell had decided to expand the world of Simon Snow in his own book, I couldn’t pass that up! The Blurb
In that novel, she introduced Simon Snow, a fictitiously fictional character loosely based on the Harry Potter series. I finally read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell last year and absolutely loved it.
